Apple TV+ has reportedly selected the source material for the second season of its anthology series “Presumed Innocent” following the first season that premiered back in June.
Created by David E. Kelley, the Jake Gyllenhaal and Ruth Negga-led show adapted Scott Turow’s 1987 novel of the same name and completely adapted the work over those episodes.
The series was renewed in July but it wasn’t clear what the plan was for the series. Now, Deadline reports that Apple TV+ and Warner Bros. TV have acquired the rights to Jo Murray’s upcoming book “Dissection of a Murder” which is being published in 2026.
That book follows Leila Reynolds, a woman who has just been handed her first murder case but then has to battle her husband, who is the case’s prosecutor. The report says that while “things are still in flux,” that book is expected to serve as inspiration for the second season.
They add that one idea was for a single character or two from the first season to carry over, ala “The White Lotus,” but it’s not clear if that’s still happening.
The show’s second season will be executive produced by Gyllenhaal, David E. Kelley, J.J. Abrams, Dustin Thomason, Matt Tinker, and Rachel Rusch Rich.
