Milla Jovovich has been set to star in “The Machinist” director Brad Anderson’s new film “Twilight of the Dead” – the seventh and final installment of George A. Romero’s “Living Dead” franchise.
Romero’s estate and financier Roundtable are teaming for the project based on a treatment Romero had written before he died in 2017. Joe Knetter, Paolo Zelati and Robert Lucas are penning the script.
Set on a tropical island, the film delves into the dark nature of humanity from the perspective of the last humans on Earth who are caught between factions of the undead.
It marks a return to the zombie genre for Jovovich who had a long-running starring role across six “Resident Evil” films.
Anderson calls it a genre story thats as emotional as it is intense and is inspired by such works as “I Am Legend,” “The Last of Us,” and “The road”.
Veteran makeup effects designer Greg Nicotero and his KNB EFX Group will create and lead the makeup effects. Shooting aims to begin in March and Fortitude International will present the project at next week’s American Film Market.
‘Twilight’ marks the official end to the franchise following the main six films (1968’s “Night of the Living Dead,” 1978’s “Dawn of the Dead,” 1985’s “Day of the Dead,” 2005’s “Land of the Dead,” 2007’s “Diary of the Dead” and 2009’s “Survival of the Dead”) and the various spinoffs and remakes.
