Production company Kadokawa opened an official website for the Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu (The Summer Hikaru Died) television anime on Wednesday, revealing the main cast, staff, a teaser visual (pictured), and teaser promo. The anime series adapting Mokumokuren‘s supernatural mystery manga will air on Nippon TV in Summer 2025. Netflix will exclusively stream the anime worldwide. Abema will also stream the anime free of charge.
Voice actors Chiaki Kobayashi (Hananoi-kun to Koi no Yamai) and Shuuichirou Umeda (Zom 100: Zombie ni Naru made ni Shitai 100 no Koto) are starring as Yoshiki Tsujinaka and Hikaru Indou, respectively.

Mokumokuren originally posted the manga on their X (formerly Twitter) account before beginning serialization on the Young Ace UP website in August 2021. Kadokawa published the fifth volume on June 4, with the sixth volume going on sale on December 4. The manga has a cumulative 2.1 million copies of its volumes in circulation, including electronic versions.
Mio Nukaga began penning a light novel adaptation under the Kadokawa Shoten label in December 2023.
Yen Press licensed the manga in English in September 2022 and released the fourth volume on August 20. The fifth volume is planned for a March 18, 2025 release. The company also licensed the light novel adaptation in English this October.
