Disney and Marvel Television Studios are reportedly submitting its hit Kathryn Hahn-led series “Agatha All Along” in comedy categories for the upcoming awards season.
That includes the Golden Globes, SAG Awards, and next year’s Emmy race – putting the show up against the likes of HBO’s “Hacks,” FX’s “The Bear” and ABC’s “Abbott Elementary” for acting, writing and directing honors.
This is important as the show, though conceived as a mini-series, is NOT going to be competing under the limited series category. This strongly suggests the plan is to continue the series beyond a single season.
Limited series is defined by awards bodies as “a complete, non-recurring story and not have an ongoing storyline or main characters in subsequent seasons.”
To date, there has been no official word from Disney or Marvel regarding a renewal. However, in order to compete in the comedy category the studio must either prove more seasons are planned or make an official announcement shortly that they are.
This is what happened with FX’s “Shogun” last year when it switched from a limited series to a drama series with a second season announcement being made.
