Talk of possible cancellation of Matt Reeves’ “The Batman Part II” have been picking up steam in the past few days, so much so it has drawn the attention and response of DC Studios chief James Gunn.
The talk seems to stem from the idea of audiences not being able to sit comfortably with two Batmans on the big screen at the same time – namely Pattinson and whomever is cast as Bruce Wayne/Batman in Andy Muschietti’s “The Brave and the Bold” whenever it eventually hits screens.
Despite no real time frame for the latter project, beyond it being several years away at least, rumors are persisting that Gunn plans to scrap Reeves’ “The Batman” franchise.
A lot of this seems to stem from Reeves not having shown off his script to WB brass as yet. Gunn has responded to this on Threads, saying:
“Like why would you even believe a rando on social networking? Of course not. If it was canceled it would be canceled. Who has time for charades? I’ve been one of Matt’s biggest cheerleaders for years – since Cloverfield and the Apes’ movies. We are eagerly awaiting his script.”
“The Batman: Part II” is still on track for an October 2026 release which means Reeves does need to film it next year, though he also has some breathing room in terms of time.
